About Graham often gets asked, "Who is Redco anyway?"When it is spelt out, it is all so obvious! We used to call ourselves Rundle Engineering Design Consultants - which was quite a mouthful - so we abbreviated it to 'Redco'. The next question is usually, "And what does Redco do?" The name is seen as being a bit modern and radical when associated with the honourable but supposedly staid profession of consulting engineers. But that's what Redco is: a bit more modern and radical than your usual firm of consulting engineers. As civil, structural and fire engineers, Redco designs all the engineering aspects of building projects - from the building foundations, the building framework and right through to the roof structure, as well as other features such as concrete slabs, retaining walls and sign supports. A speciality field that first brought Graham to the Bay of Plenty over twenty years ago is the design of buildings constructed from polystyrene coolroom panels. These panels are great for kiwifruit coolstores, of course, but they are also very versatile. They can be used for many other types of buildings that require clean, smart surfaces inside and out. They are used for food processing factories, wineries, service stations, fast-food outlets, building site huts and even relocatable housing. The team at Redco consists of six professional engineers, three CAD engineering draughtspersons, and two administration staff. They work from modern air-conditioned offices with plenty of on-site parking. With their resources, no project is too small or too large for the Redco team. Some projects can be as small as garden retaining walls, but Redco also designed the cargo shed at the Port of Tauranga that has the largest clear span portal frame ever built in New Zealand. Redco also worked on Tauranga's tallest building, the 16-storey Devonport Tower apartment block in downtown Tauranga - the tallest building outside Auckland or Wellington! On both of these large projects, Redco was engaged by clients who knew and respected the company's astute and cost-effective engineering design skills. And what about that word, "enginuity"? It's a play on the fact that Engineering (as in Civil Engineering) is derived from the same root as Ingenuity. And Redco is all about giving their clients an ingenious, cost-effective solution for their building project. |
